From time to time, Disney World attractions will close for temporary refurbishments. These closures are usually announced in advance and can last anywhere from a couple of days to over a year.

On the other hand, rides can also close down unexpectedly for technical issues, weather, or many other reasons. Luckily, they are generally up and running again later in the day.
